Principle Dentist
Dr Arfan Iqbal BDS (Man) MFDS RCS Edin

My name is Arfan Iqbal and I am the Principal Dentist at Sandes Avenue Dental Practice. Having qualified from Manchester Dental School in 2001, I began my career in the very busy referral clinics of Dundee Dental Hospital working alongside some of the top consultants in the country. Here, I developed my interest in Cosmetic and Advanced Restorative Dentistry. After obtaining further qualifications, I earned the prestigious membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

Following this l have worked with several large corporates including BUPA and Colgate in providing a wide variety of cosmetic procedures, and now work here in Kendal and Manchester.

I regularly keep up to date with all the latest developments in dentistry, often traveling worldwide to obtain skills in the latest techniques. I enjoy treating nervous patients and have a very caring and professional approach, this can be seen by the hundreds of testimonials received from my very happy patients. I am also one of the few dentists in the country to be Dental Phobia Certified.

I am very passionate about my dentistry including cosmetic dentistry such as veneers and dental implants, and am proud to be recognised as one of the premiere cosmetic dentists in the country. Many patients come to see me who have not seen a dentist for many years, they may not have been attending due to fear or they may have been ashamed of their smile. I feel especially proud once I have gained their trust, answered all their questions and given them a beautiful natural smile. It’s so rewarding to see them smile confidently for the first time in years and no longer be scared of going to the dentist. This passion is also reflected in my team who go to great lengths to ensure that your visit is as relaxing and as pleasant as can be. To complement my dentistry I carry out facial rejuvenation procedures such as Botox and Dermal Fillers

Outside dentistry I enjoy spending time with friends and family and am a keen badminton player.

Associate Dentist
Dr Pinar Akman BDSc

I qualified to be a dentist in 2002 at the Free University in Berlin. When I qualified I went to Brazil to do some aid work for 2 months. I returned to Berlin to continue working for the next 3 years and then moved to Norway for 1 year. After this I took some time out of dentistry to complete some scientific research for my PhD but found dealing with patients was more gratifying and dentistry was where my heart was. I moved to England and immediately fell in love with the Lakes and the Lake District and decided to settle down here. I joined Sandes Avenue Dental Practice in December 2010 as the reputation of the practice was to offer and deliver high quality dental and cosmetic care to its patients.

In my spare time I enjoy socialising, walking, climbing and travelling.

Private Receptionist / Diane Rogan
I joined the practice in November 2010 and received a warm welcome from the team, who have helped me to learn my role.

I enjoy exploring new walks with my husband and my dog. I am interested in nature, in particular bird-watching and am fascinated by space. I love the thrill of riding as a pillion passenger on my husband’s motorbike and love to watch the Isle of Man TT on television.

We both felt the need to find more down to earth and reasonably priced Private dentistry. Given the obvious deterioration in NHS dental standards over recent years and the unrealistic pricing of some Private practices we decided to shop around for a sensibly priced dentist with good general dental experience. We were not interested in being sold expensive treatment plans on the back of “free” consultation where the price of this is so obviously added to the extensive treatment requirement. We were pleasantly pleased to see no “Interest Free Finance/Payment Plans”. These have always worry me as they must reflect very significant treatment costs way beyond my purse strings.

No such worries at Sandes Avenue. Good service, very pleasant surroundings and people. Best of all the prices were extremely reasonable especially when you take into account the time we received from both dentists, Jennifer and Melanie.

Mr and Mrs R
Grange over Sands
Dr Jennifer Richards was recommended to me by a close friend and also my next door neighbour. I was not disappointed. In fact every aspect of the treatment I received was 1st class from the moment I walked into their modern reception and surgery at Sandes Avenue in Kendal. The first thing I notice was how unlike it compared to the usual dark and dingy dental premises I have visited previously.

Their reception area was very open, light and well appointed. The toilets were immaculately clean and scent of freshly cut flowers added a soothing touch.

I was even more impressed by the spacious surgery which contained another separate seating area. This was equipped with the latest technological equipment. I was treated in a very respectful, caring yet professional manner. Jennifer provided me with a detailed written treatment plan and even showed me pictures taken with their digital camera system to evidence why my teeth needed attention.

I always felt comfortable and relaxed with Jennifer’s unique approach to my treatment. I now regularly recommend Sandes Avenue Dental Practice to my friends.
